Penzance Dry Dock Ltd Repairs Isles of Scilly GRY MARITHA

Following routine survey work by Lloyds on the palletised cargo ship the GRY MARITHA ( Built 1981) the operators, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Co Ltd decided to dock the vessel at Penzance Dry Dock Ltd to effect repairs. These consisted of extensive steel renewals in way of the ballast wing tanks, approximately 8 tonnes of steel being replaced on the hull and 15 tonnes on the tank top.

Since the vessel was urgently required to be back on the run delivering essential goods to the Isles of Scilly the yard reacted immediately by gearing up for 24 hour working, and following the docking of the vessel on the 21st April, the undocking will follow on schedule on the 7th May with the vessel returning to service later in the month.

This is the most extensive and largest steelwork job carried out by Penzance Dry Dock in a very short programme and is testimony to their workforce and subcontractors reacting positively to the needs of their regular Customer, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Co Ltd.
